What district of North Carolina do you represent?

District 13: Robeson and Columbus.

Briefly, how would you describe the opioid crisis in your state?

Our state is experiencing an opioid epidemic with no end in sight. We must think and operate outside the box to find a solution.

What are the two or three most significant bills that have been introduced in your chamber to help alleviate the opioid crisis in your state?

STOP Act and the First Step Act.

What was your involvement, if any, in those bills (e.g., introduction, advocacy, vote pledge)?

I was a cosponsor and primary sponsor, respectively.

Have any of the bills passed? If not, why?

Not yet, as they were just filed this session.

What was the most memorable experience you had while learning about the opioid crisis in your state?

I have many. I have served as a parent attorney in DSS Abuse and neglect court and have worked as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney for over 15 years.

If you had a magic wand that allowed you to pass any legislation you wanted in order to help alleviate the opioid crisis in your state, what would that legislation look like?

I would need a pretty big magic wand because i would need one large enough to adequately fund the substance abuse treatment we would need more so than the legislation itself.
